After the death of her husband and the end of the war, Theodosia and Burr married at the Hermitage in July 1782. After the American Revolution, the Hermitage passed through a series of owners and was used as a tavern, before it was purchased in 1807 by a young doctor, Elijah Rosencrantz and his wife, Cornelia Suffern. In 1804 his political career came to an abrupt end when he killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel. In 1807 he was tried for treason for allegedly attempting to annex lands in the West. His daughter, Theodosia Burr (Burr) Alston (1783-1813), married Joseph Alston, who later became governor of South Carolina. Aaron Burr had fallen in love with a young man named Alexander Hamilton, and Alexander fell in love with Aaron too. After dating for a wile, they get married and decide to adopt two children.
